The School of Tourism

Sun, sea, sand and… study! That’s a great start but there’s a whole lot more to the internationally recognised School of Tourism at BU. From Events to Hospitality, Leisure to Retail, and Sport slam dunked in for good measure it’s all covered, and with Bournemouth itself as the UK’s premier resort you’ll be in the right place. All courses take a hands-on and flexible approach to learning so be ready to jump on in and enjoy the journey! The School works closely with industry partners and with a key theme of ‘employability’ throughout your course you’ll be ready to hit the ground running in your new role as a truly Global Citizen.  Couple that with over 500 exciting placement opportunities in the UK and abroad and the world really will be your oyster. Previous students have worked for the likes of Lastminute.com, The National Trust and even the Welsh Rugby Union so there is something for everyone. It’s all about giving you the skills and knowledge so that as a manager you can go on to create exceptional customer experiences when you leave us. But in the meantime, down to the beach after lectures anyone?!

The School of Applied Sciences

If you’re looking for a science and research based education in a range of natural and physical sciences then choose BU. Be ready to get your hands dirty though as fieldwork and laboratory skills are essential to all our courses, providing you with the practical skills needed for your exciting future career!  If you’re keen on archaeology and heritage, then we offer Archaeology, Archaeology & Anthropology, Prehistoric & Roman Archaeology, and also Archaeological, Anthropological & Forensic Sciences. Try saying the last one ten times after an afternoon in Dylan’s Bar at the Student’s Union!  If you’re into geography and the environment then we offer Applied Geography, Ecology & Wildlife Conservation, and Environmental Science. Alternatively, if the latest series of Dexter isn’t satisfying your forensic needs then BU offers both Forensic Science and Forensic Investigation, which include study in hi-tech simulated crime scene rooms!  Finally, for budding biologists we offer Biological Sciences, a broad ranging course and an ideal foundation course for a future in the field or in research. Whichever course you choose you’ll be gaining a transferable skill set that can take you outside the traditional science sector and into other industries, and with an average starting BU graduate salary of £21,000 it’s a no brainer!

The School of Design, Engineering and Computing

Wanting to get tuned in?! Looking for the latest in innovation?! Well, with BU being the home to the Festival of Design & Innovation you’re in the right place. We offer a range of exciting Design, Engineering, Computing and Creative Technology courses so there is something for everyone. If you’ve an eye for design then you may be interested in our Product Design or Industrial Design courses, and for budding engineers there’s Engineering and Design Engineering, all set within state of the art facilities and taught by award winning academics.  If combining creativity and technology is your thing then we offer Games Programming and Games Technology, as well as Music & Audio Technology and Music & Sound Production Technology, and you’ll pleased to hear that these courses have been tailored to meet industry demands for highly skilled professionals.  Alternatively, for the IT savvy amongst you all areas are covered with courses from Business Information Technology to Information Technology Management, Computing to Computer Networks, and also Forensic Computing & Security is included too. The Business School

Let’s get down to business shall we? From Business and Management to qualifying Law degrees, and Accounting, Finance & Economics courses thrown into the mix, studying at our Business School gives you a head start over others in your career. Our academics have industry backgrounds, and our hands-on learning and modern facilities will equip you for the fast-paced and exciting world of business eagerly waiting for you. Move over Sir. Alan Sugar and Sheryl Sandberg! And when we say ‘world’ we really do mean it as our courses benefit from business communities on local, national and international scales. Invaluable placement years can be completed in the UK or overseas, with study abroad opportunities available too, and with the skills and unique experience you gain, you’ll soon be snapped up by BU-loving employers. Finally, with many professional accreditations our courses also have an official stamp of approval to enhance your employability, with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Chartered Institute of Marketing and Solicitors Regulation Authority to name but a few. The Media School:

From Animation to Advertising, Marketing to Media Production, Journalism to Communication, we’ve got all angles covered. Throw in students from all over the world and you’re looking at a truly global mix. State of the art facilities and connections to companies like Sony and Apple mean you’ll be part of cutting edge studies too. Whether animation, interactive media, TV production or journalism you’ll produce independent projects from the get-go building up an impressive portfolio ready to showcase your talents to BU loving companies. Previous students have completed their placement with the likes of the BBC, Disney, BMW, IBM, the Independent and even Cosmopolitan so there’s something for everyone. Are you ready?! Lights! Camera! The School of Health and Social Care:

Ready to make a difference? Want to help make people’s lives better? If yes, then the School of Health and Social Care (HSC) can help you reach your goal. HSC covers both the Health Professions and Sciences, and also Social Studies. Continuous investment in our renowned facilities ensures you get an up-to-date learning experience and all courses integrate theory with placements or fieldwork. That said, you’ll have the hands-on experience you need to really go on and help others when you graduate. Most of our courses lead students to an academic award and professional registration whether it’s nursing, midwifery or social work, whilst your placement will make sure you’re well prepared for professional practice. Whether it’s by the Health and Care Professions Council, Association for Nutrition or Nursing and Midwifery Council, many of our courses are accredited which really goes to show the quality education experience we offer. It’s no secret that HSC courses are demanding so when you need a break from helping others, you can help yourself to a coffee and have a catch up with your course mates in the HSC chilled out Boho Lounge.  Ah! Just what the doctor ordered… as did the Midwife, Social Worker, Paramedic, Nutritionist and Nurse!!
