Hello, my name’s Charlie and I work as an Adviser in the askBU Current Students team. These are currently our top 5 most commonly asked questions:

  1. “I haven’t received the invitation email for the award ceremonies, when will I get this?”

You should have received you invitation via email to your university email account as long as you are eligible to attend. You can check your Uni email here.

If you still haven’t got the email, please let us know so we can speak to our Awards Team.

“I have received this email but I can’t register online, I’ve tried my “i” number but it doesn’t work”

To register your attendance you will have to set up a completely different ‘Awards’ account on the portal, here are the steps to doing this:

  1. Go to the Student Portal
  2. Click on the Help and Advice tab
  3. On the left, go to Award Ceremonies
  4. On the right there will be a link for Award Ceremony Registration, which takes you to this page
  5. Scroll down the page and you find your school, click on the ‘View’ box
  6. Click on the green ‘Book’ box in the bottom right of the page.
  7. In the middle of the page, there is a blue box that says “this is my first visit”, click on this link and set up your account and then you will be able to register.

2. “When will I be able to do my online (re)Registration?”

Continuing Students: You should be getting your online registration information to your university email account soon. If you are awaiting results from re-assessments, online registration will be unavailable until after results have been published. After this you can re-register online at any point before your course starts again, so keep checking back so you’re not left in the dark!

New Students for 2013: If you are a first year student coming to BU in September you will get your log in details in your welcome pack. This should be on its way to you after the 14th August in the post if you are a UK/EU student or by email if you are from outside the EU.

3. “When will I get my timetable? I’ve tried accessing it online and can’t log in, it says I need to re-enrol”

Timetables will be published by September 10th for all schools. You will need to complete online registration before you will be able to access these.

We have also received a number of queries about the start of term for Levels I and H.

Please note your term will start on the week beginning the 23rd of September ,you should receive a letter from your school informing you of when the official start of year will be. This is the same letter that informs you of your eligibility to register online.

4. “I’ve forgotten my password; can you reset it for me?”

Yes we can, you can also recover/change your password on the Student Portal here.

Remember that your password needs to be changed once every 3 months, so the reason that you may be locked out of your email/MyBU could be that you have not done this.

On this page you can also update your home address through the contact details tab and your emergency contact info. Make sure you keep these up to date so if we need to contact you we can do this as quickly as possible.

5. “I’m going into second year; will I receive the BU Maintenance Bursary again? Do I need to reapply?”

No. You do not need to reapply for the Maintenance Bursary again as it automatically follows you into your second/final years if you are still eligible.

Details of the funding you will receive can be found here.

Scholarship information:

If you have received the required grades to gain an Academic Achievement Scholarship, this will be given to you automatically as long as you are entering your first year of Higher Education this year. If you have taken a degree level course before, you will not receive this Scholarship.*

*There are no Academic scholarships available for students who have achieved high grades in their first year.

If you would like to contact askBU to ask any further questions on these topics, or any other queries at all, call us on 01202 969696 or email us on askBUstudents@bournemouth.ac.uk
