BA (Hons) Tourism Management graduate Maris Kuklis is MICE Account Manager for Etihad Airways.
In a recent communication he said “I studied for the BA (Hons) Tourism Management at Bournemouth University and graduated in 2008. I’m working now for Etihad Airways as MICE Account Manager in the London Office.
Studying at Bournemouth University helped to set the stage for the start of the career in business tourism. It was very relevant as offered a great choice and relevant subjects studied, to mix of people we met and made lifetime friends with some of which we are working in my day to day job. Without BA (Hons) Tourism Management, I would not be where I am today
There are particular aspects of the course that helped me succeed after graduation and in particular the combination of group work, presentation and variety of subjects from finance, to accounting to small business management. As well as fantastic lecturers, the field trip to Cyprus in year 2 and wealth resources available through at the University from books to online reports.
My BU experience overall was live changing and motivating to do a global career. I was involved in many extra-curricular activities while studying such as the BU Athletics Club and setting up the Student Entrepreneurship Club called Business Mania.
My advice to any recent graduates looking for work is talk to family and friends ifthey know of any job openings through friends – ask for recommendations. Join key industry Associations where potential employers may attend – have a business card ready. Gain as much work experience as possible through various paid and charity work. Update your CV and Linkedin Profile with most recent information – ask someone to proofread the profile. Have a professional looking headshot profile picture and dont forget to network.
