Winchester – How a Park & Ride scheme has benefited both the residents and visitors of a popular historic city
Speaker: Simon Finch, Assistant Director, Environment, Winchester City Council
Historic cities that host large numbers of visitors tend to have their principal attractions within a small area that also houses the shops and workplaces of their residents. That area is served by a road system that cannot bear the traffic generated by today’s needs. One method of easing the inevitable congestion is to provide a ‘Park and Ride’ scheme that reduces vehicle access during the day whilst allowing commerce to continue and preserving the welcome afforded to tourists. Our presenter will be telling us how this objective has been achieved in Winchester and the most important lessons that have been learned during its development over several years.
Refreshments will be provided.
