Dr Tim Breitbarth and Dr Andrew Adams, both senior lecturers in sport management, visited the elite sport university as part of on-going teaching and research collaboration.
Besides teaching extensively on various international Masters and undergraduate programmes and advising PhD researchers, collaborative work with the Institute of Sport Economics and Sport Management and the Institute of Sport Sociology were intensified and links into the Institute of European Sport Development and Leisure Studies were developed.
For example, Dr Breitbarth collaborates with Dr Stefan Walzel, senior lecturer in sport management and marketing, on an international project on corporate social responsibility in sports, which was recently awarded a prestigious 15,000 pounds research grand from UEFA. Amongst other, the partners also co-convene a special track at the 2013 European Association for Sport Management conference and co-edit a special issue on the topic. Dr Adams discussed EU project bid plans with German colleagues and discussed experiences with setting-up and managing international projects.
“Obviously, German Sport University Cologne is a unique place gathering internationally highly regarded researchers from all scientific disciplines, who work and teach in top-notch facilities. It is good to see two of our own students, Jake Stokoe and Jonathan Roberts, benefiting from this high-quality quality learning environment in the next academic year, when we start the reciprocal student exchange,” says Dr Breitbarth, who has helped the BU sports group to develop new and more international opportunities for staff and students.
As part of his guest lectures, he also promoted BU Masters programmes and the Bachelor (Hons) Sport Management Golf in particular, since the latter is one of only a very few programmes on the European tertiary educational landscape specialising on the sport that shows significant growth rates in most countries.
