Placement Year

BA (Hons) Media Production

Choosing Bournemouth University (BU) was a pivotal decision in my educational and career journey, driven by my desire to acquire a diverse skill set that would enhance both my degree in Media Production and my future career prospects. I sought a university that not only offered relevant academic modules but also provided a vibrant extracurricular scene, student job opportunities, and a location rich with external enrichment activities. BU met all these criteria and more.

The Course

Poole Gateway Building Facilities

My first point of reference for BU was its renowned Media Production course. Bournemouth University has a reputation in the media field, and the course structure aligned perfectly with my interests. When I was applying, BU had just opened the Poole Gateway Building     , equipped with the latest media technology. Additionally, BU’s had strong industry connections, with guest speakers and opportunities for students to work with top companies. I knew these connections would be invaluable when seeking placements and postgraduate career opportunities.

Location

Locations in Bournemouth

The location of BU was another significant factor in my decision. The accessibility of the university to other parts of the city was important for getting around, but also Bournemouth is a beautiful city with scenic locations is the perfect place for filming and photography.

Extra-Curricular Projects

As a big city, there would also be various opportunities for side projects, whether independent or with external organisations. Bournemouth makes it an ideal for networking and completing academic and personal projects.

Student Ambassador Opportunities

I also aimed to become a Student Ambassador, so finding a university with a strong ambassador program was essential. BU’s Student Ambassador programme stood out, offering numerous opportunities to develop valuable skills in different positions, such as digital content creation, communication and presentation, which are crucial for my degree and future career. The programme’s diverse roles and responsibilities would allow me to enhance my skill set comprehensively.

Hobbies & Activities

Additionally, having grown up with a passion for hobbies, joining a society was important to me. BU’s extensive range of societies, including a dynamic Dance Society with various teams, appealed to my interests. Beyond dance, I was keen to expand my media skills, particularly in radio. BU’s media network, Nerve, offered platforms for radio, TV, other online media, and eventually expanding to photography. This comprehensive media network provided the perfect environment for honing my media skills and gaining practical experience.
