Of course, the first thing that comes into mind when we talk about Bournemouth is the beach. Although the beach is great, this town has so much more to offer than its amazing white sands.

Bournemouth has also a lot of parks, a common feature across many British towns and cities. Here are my 2 favourite places to go and enjoy myself on a sunny day:

The Gardens

The whole area is made up of 3 parts: the Lower, Central and Upper Gardens, which are in total 3km long.

The Lower Gardens runs from the pier to the town centre, and there you can find little shops selling snacks, an aviary and a mini-golf course. During the Christmas Season, there is also an ice rink situated here. It is an ideal place to have a short walk before or after some shopping. You can also go to the cinema, which is right next door, or enjoy the many bars and restaurants nearby.

The Central Gardens

Keep walking and you will get into The Central Gardens, which contains the Bournemouth War Memorial, guarded by two stone lions, tennis courts and a children’s playground.  This a very calm and quiet area comparing to the busy city centre.

Finally, The Upper Gardens, which were previously part of Durant’s family private garden (in the 1860s) and covers three distinct plants styles – European, Asian and North American, including what is believed to be the largest Giant Redwood in Britain today.

Slades Farm

Just across the road from Talbot Campus you can find this beautiful area called Slades Farm. There are loads of trees and a big outdoor space with grass and some areas to practice sports, such as cycling or skating. On a sunny day it is just the perfect place for  a picnic with your classmates.

I hope you will take time to enjoy some of the parks in Bournemouth and explore more of this amazing town!
