Lansdowne Campus mainly houses our School of Health & Social Care as well as postgraduate Business & Management students. This campus is made up of several buildings which all have individual facilities that aid students’ study.
Bournemouth House is the hub of Lansdowne Campus. The library provides access to extensive up-to-date resources where subject specialist librarians offer advice on finding the best material for your studies. The campus is Wi-Fi-compatible and many students choose to work on their own laptops. Last summer, the Students’ Union worked together with the university to create a new learning and living zone- the BoHo Student Lounge. This is somewhere where you can do group work in technobooths and not worry about eating, drinking or making too much noise; equally you can also relax and have a coffee on the sofas! The SUBU shop sells a variety of student essentials like food and drink, phone cards and stationery. Every pound or pence spent in it goes back into the students experience so we can offer students more for free. If you need advice on finance and funding, accommodation or simply where your class is, make the askBU current students team your first stop. The new student hub area is somewhere students can collect or drop off assignments and talk to admin staff about bursary queries, travel claim sheets, course queries and much more!
Many of our courses in Health & Social Care include a significant proportion of clinical-based placements within the South West region. Our on-campus skills-suites at Studland House aid the transition between theory and real-life practice and give our students the confidence and credibility to go out into the clinical workplace and be effective, valuable members of the caring professions. We have rooms that represent hospital wards and delivery suites with all the relevant equipment and dummies to work on which helps to recreate a real working environment for our students.
The Executive Business Centre is a focal point for the local business community, and an ideas exchange area for the region. Based on our Lansdowne Campus, this contemporary building offers the latest business accommodation; including an e-library and bespoke study areas, in the form of a paper-free resource facilities where all study materials, books and journals are available electronically. The i-Floor offers individual study areas, technopods and breakout zones for informal discussion and group-work. Both the executive dining area and Caffé Liscio coffee, are geared towards ‘doing business’ and offer delicious food and drink at a very reasonable price.
Royal London House is home to our askBU Future Students team of dedicated, friendly and, most importantly, knowledgeable advisers who can help you with many inquiries from accommodation options to financing your studies.
The Old Fire Station is the Students’ Union’s award winning nightclub. Student prices, an awesome vibe and student-centric nights are the theme here. Set in a listed fire station building at the top of Bournemouth town, a range of diverse nights out are on offer, in unique surroundings. Whilst occasionally they let the public in for live acts, and big nights, by just showing your student card on the door, you will get a wrist band which ensures you still get student prices on drinks, so you can still have a cheap night out and enjoy what the public pay full price for!
Melbury house is the home to our Residential Services office with dedicated staff making sure all your accommodation needs are met. They advertise accommodation that is available within their office and they are there to offer advice and support on anything related to your accommodation, for example help with landlords. This building is also home to some of our professional services staff from Marketing to Human Resources.
Opposite Melbury House we have a Crime Scene Training Centre which is used by Applied Science students studying courses such as Forensic Science. This building allows space for mock crime scenes which resemble those that a student may have to face in their career. From bedrooms to mass graves, this building really helps students to practice what they learn.
Accommodation on Lansdowne Campus
Five of our major student residences are based on the Lansdowne Campus. These are: Cranborne House, Purbeck House, Dorchester House, Chesil House and Lyme Regis House. Our halls tend to combine communal spaces – shared kitchens and living spaces with a private bedroom/study space and an en-suite bathroom. Each room has internet connection, and students have access to a laundrette and bike storage as well as excellent connections for the subsidised bus service and Bournemouth rail station. All of this is just a few minutes’ walk away from town and even better yet, the beach!
