#BUProud of Sybil Pithie human resources for The Savoy Hotel – London she is doing well and came back to recruit more BU graduates.
Alumni now building their careers in the service sector returned to BU this week for the Faculty of Management Careers Fair.
Employers from the retail, events, leisure, tourism and hospitality industries attended the event to promote opportunities for current students. The fair, which combined employer stands with presentations, was organised as part of the Student Talent Employability Engagement Programme (STEEP).
Among the visitors was Sybil Pithie, who graduated from BU with a BA (Hons) in International Hospitality Management in 2015, and who now works in human resources for The Savoy Hotel – London.
Sybil originally joined The Savoy’s graduate scheme following an introduction made while at university. However, when an opportunity came up to join the hotel group’s HR team, she jumped at the chance. She said: “It is great to come back to Bournemouth to speak to current students. You can see that students are nervous about speaking to potential employers, but as soon as I tell them that I was in their position a couple of years ago, they visibly relax. My time at Bournemouth gave me valuable contacts and practical skills which I could apply to many areas of the hospitality industry. However, in this industry, it is as much about who you know as what you know, so events like this provide valuable opportunities for students and employers alike.”
