Student Abbie on placement as an ODP

Why did you choose to study ODP at BU?

The fantastic and modern facilities and the layout of course placements compare to other universities.

What was your favourite placement so far and why?

Recovery as you really get to know your patient and make a difference.

How important is it that the academics teaching on ODP are current practitioners?

Those that are current practitioners understand better what we are going through as students in placement and how to support us better. They also have real life stories that help us to understand the true nature of the qualified role.

How would you describe the work of an ODP for those who aren’t familiar with the job role……

A specialised practitioner working in anaesthetics, scrub and recovery in the operating theatre.

What advice would you give someone who wanted to apply for an ODP course?

You need to be determined as the course can be tiring and stressful but ultimately rewarding.
