Copyright User in the report by the IP Adviser to the Prime Minister

On Friday 10 October 2014, Mike Weatherley MP published the report Copyright Education and Awareness, which represents his final contribution as Intellectual Property Adviser to the Prime Minister David Cameron. The report considers copyright education and awareness activities in the UK, suggesting that efforts should be made in order to increase coordination among the various initiatives in this field. Mike Weatherley’s paper explicitly features CopyrightUser.org, a co-production between CIPPM and CREATe.

In particular, the report describes some of the resources that will be published on CopyrightUser.org with the goal of helping A-Level Media Studies teachers and students understand UK copyright law. Indeed, CIPPM and CREATe are working in collaboration with the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP) and Oxford, Cambridge and RSA (OCR) in an attempt to introduce copyright law into the AS/A Level Media Studies curriculum in schools in England and Wales.

Furthermore, one of the recommendations of Weatherley’s report specifically addresses Copyrightuser.org, suggesting that it should work closely with the Copyright Hub in order to offer the public a set of tools about copyright law that are neutral and consistent.
