Dr Suelen Carls represented Bournemouth University in interdisciplinary discussions on technology, intellectual property and economic change during a visit to Brazil in late September and early October 2026.
The visit began with a knowledge-exchange session at Peck Advogados, where Suelen spoke with the firm’s team about her professional journey and the experiences shaping her academic work.
The following day, Suelen participated in AI Experience: Data Governance and Cybersecurity. She joined the closing panel, “Fashion and Diversity in the Age of Robots”, alongside guests including the fashion designer Gloria Coelho. Moderated by Patricia Peck Pinheiro, the discussion brought legal and industry perspectives into dialogue around technology, fashion and diversity.
Suelen subsequently participated in the IV International Congress on Law, Public Policy, Technology, and the Internet, held from 6–9 October at the Faculdade de Direito de Franca. Organised by Yuri Lannes, the congress provided a forum for examining legal responses to technological and economic transformation.
On the panel “Taxation in the Contemporary Economy: Challenges and Perspectives”, Suelen and her colleague Rodrigo presented complementary perspectives on the taxation of intangible assets under Brazil’s tax reform, connecting intellectual property research with contemporary tax-policy debates.
The visit reflects the interdisciplinary and knowledge-exchange interests of Bournemouth University’s Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (CIPPM), bringing research into conversation with legal practice and the creative industries.
