Melanie Stockton-Brown is Lecturer in Intellectual Property Law at University of Reading.
Prior to joining University of Reading in September 2024, Melanie was a member of CIPPM and Principal Academic in Law at Bournemouth University. She obtained her PhD from CIPPM in 2020, with a thesis on out-of commerce works in film archives under the Copyright in the Digital Single Market Directive.
Melanie graduated from Aberystwyth University in 2014 with a First Class degree in Criminal Law and was awarded three Calcott Pryce awards for the highest performance in individual modules. She gained a Distinction in her Master’s degree in Human Rights Law from Sunderland University in 2015 and was awarded the Best Post Graduate Law Student award. For her Master’s dissertation, Melanie explored compulsory licensing of essential pharmaceuticals in public health emergencies. Melanie has also worked as a corporate paralegal in a commercial law firm, assisting fee earners with commercial and intellectual property work.
