Bournemouth University MSc Tourism Management students paid a visit to the Swanage Railway recently. After a welcome from the General Manager, the Sales and Marketing Manager (David Rawsthorn) gave a presentation about the attraction’s marketing and promotional strategies.
The students were then introduced to the Railway’s interpretation policies and guided round the museum at Corfe Castle by Chris Morgan, the Railway’s Museums and Education Manager.
This was followed by a lively discussion about strategies and approaches to heritage interpretation. As part of their assessment for the ‘Managing Visitor Attractions’ unit, students will produce an interpretive panel which interprets any aspect of the Railway.
In December students will present their panels to representatives of the Railway’s museums team.
