Mr Edward Tayton
Date of Fellowship: September 2015 to March 2016
Current Appointment(s): Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Circle Hospital, Berkshire Independent Hospital, Reading, UK
Biography:
I trained initially in London, and completed my basic surgical training on the Bristol rotation. I commenced higher surgical training in 2007 in the Wessex Region, and took a 2 year sabbatical period to complete a PhD in Orthopaedic Tissue Engineering at the University of Southampton. I undertook an overseas fellowship in hip and knee surgeon in Auckland, New Zealand, prior to returning the UK to complete my training with a further fellowship under the Guidance of Prof Middleton.
Comments on time as Prof Middleton (ORI) Fellow:
I had a really fantastic experience during my time with Rob in Bournemouth.
I was able to gain significant experience with performing a high volume of primary hip replacements, and more importantly gained maximum exposure to revision hip replacements and peri-prosthetic fractures, being able to perform a number surgeries independently prior to the completion of my fellowship.
In addition to this, Rob is unrivalled in his leadership and management style, and it was extremely informative to be there at the set up of the research institute (ORI). As someone who has similar intentions in the future, as the University of Reading becomes a medical school, I have gained valuable insight as to how to go about this, and hope to set up some close links with the ORI.
