Mr Georgios Orfanos
Date of Fellowship: September 2024 to Present
Current Appointment(s): Post CCT hip fellowship
Following two years of national military service in Cyprus, I embarked on my undergraduate degree at the University of Birmingham. I completed my Foundation and Core Surgical training in the West Midlands. I got my run through orthopaedic training at the Oswestry/Stoke rotation. During my last 6 months I completed an intra-deanery fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham focusing on infection and oncology. I am currently in Bournemouth doing a Post-CCT Hip fellowship. I enjoy research and teaching juniors. I aspire to be a lower limb arthroplasty Consultant with an interest in periprosthetic fractures and infection.
Comments on time as Prof Middleton (ORI) fellow:
The fellowship boasts of both independent lists as well as supervised lists. The Consultant lists allow for exposure in more complex and revision cases. The majority of lists are at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, however for one day of the week we are based at Poole Hospital to allow for trauma exposure. There is also a scope for the fellows to observe robotic surgery with Professor Middleton in the private sector.
Wednesdays are spent at ORI with Professor Middleton. This acts as a mentorship day, where I can discuss Consultant life, setting up my practice, talk about the cases and perform research.
