Prof Ian Swain invited to co-chair IFESS Conference 2024

ORI’s Professor Ian Swain will be the co-chair for the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society (IFESS) conference that is taking place in Bath from 1st to 3rd September 2024. The IFESS promotes research, application and understanding of electrical stimulation technologies in rehabilitation and medicine. The focus of this year’s conference is on electrical stimulation and hybrid technologies.

Alongside being co-chair, Prof Ian Swain will also be presenting his research at the conference, which will be his last before retirement. The talk will be titled ‘TetraGrip: A functional electrical stimulation (FES) device for enhancing upper limb function in people with tetraplegia – clinical aspects, subject recruitment and changes in SCI incidence’.

Former ORI PhD student, Louise Burgess, will also be presenting her PhD findings at the conference, titled ‘Six weeks of home based neuromuscular electrical stimulation improves knee extensor in healthy, older adults – a feasibility study’.
