The KneeFit program, a 12-week exercise regimen designed for knee osteoarthritis patients, which was designed by physiotherapists from University Hospitals Dorset and evaluated by the ORI team, has been published and shows significant improvements in leg strength, symptoms, function, and quality of life.
The study, published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine, tailored exercises for patients around the one-repetition maximum (1RM) strength-training principle, and found it both feasible and an effective method for exercise prescription in patients with knee osteoarthritis. While incorporating both supervised and unsupervised exercises, the program also highlighted the importance of personalised approaches and adjustments based on patient feedback and progress.
These findings could influence future treatment strategies, emphasising the utility of structured exercise programs in managing knee osteoarthritis symptoms and improving patient outcomes.
