Buckingham Healthcare Glideboard transfer board
As part of an Innovate UK grant with Buckingham Healthcare, ORI was delighted to host and facilitate a workshop on the 1st December 2021 to evaluate a range of prototypes for a new wheelchair to toilet transfer system.
Occupational therapists from University Hospitals Dorset, Dorset Council, Salisbury Hospital, and Portsmouth City Council were joined by engineers from Burrell Innovations and the National Composites Centre, as well as representatives from Buckingham Healthcare.
Prof Tom Wainwright explained “It was a really productive day that highlighted the importance of collaborating with local clinical colleagues, engineers and industry partners when designing assistive technologies and medical devices. This grant is our second from Innovate UK in partnership with Buckingham Healthcare and it is great to be partnering with a Dorset based company. A new transfer board from our first project has just been launched to market and I am very excited to see how the second project and product develop over the coming months.”
