Mr Simon Newman
Date of Fellowship: January 2016 to January 2017
Current Appointment(s): Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, UK
Biography:
I am a hip and knee surgeon with a particular interest in hip preservation surgery. I was trained on the Northwest Thames Rotation where I completed a PhD on unicompartmental knee replacement in parallel with my clinical work under the supervision of Prof Justin Cobb. I completed fellowships in Bournemouth and Oxford before being appointed as a substantive consultant in Oxford. I continue to have a strong interest in research and I am involved in both pre-clinical and clinical studies in Oxford and London. I live in London with my wife and 3 very energetic small boys who between them consume my free time!
Comments on time as Prof Middleton (ORI) Fellow:
My time with Prof Middleton set me on my way as a hip surgeon and the skills I developed working with him were instrumental in me obtaining my current post. The way he runs his practice has had a huge bearing on how I now run my practice.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Bournemouth because of the great people I got to work with on both the clinical and research teams. I continue to recommend the fellowship as a fantastic opportunity for the budding hip surgeon.
