CHAIN programme presented at the British Hip Society Meeting

Session speakers

Prof Tom Wainwright was invited to speak at the British Hip Society Annual Scientific Meeting in Belfast, and presented findings of the CHAIN programme as part of a session focussed on the conservative management of hip osteoarthritis.

The CHAIN programme is a eight-week exercise and education treatment pathway designed for individuals diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis. Based on the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, the programme emphasises self-management of hip pain through education, aerobic exercise, local muscle strengthening, and weight loss where necessary. Participants attend weekly sessions at a local leisure centre, which include a thirty-minute education session delivered by a physiotherapist and thirty minutes of indoor cycling led by a spin instructor, supplemented by home exercises.
