This month, Tom Wainwright, Louise Burgess and patient, Kevin Hubble, were invited to publish a review on the current evidence for rehabilitation following hip replacement surgery in the Fitness Professionals Ltd (FitPro) magazine.
FitPro is one of the largest fitness companies in the world, with over 150,000 members in 84 countries, including personal trainers, nutritionists, and sports and exercise professionals. The review aims to guide exercise professionals on the current evidence and recommendations for rehabilitation following hip replacement surgery. The article covers early recovery (from discharge to six weeks) and longer-term rehabilitation (six weeks to six months), and discusses ideas for functional movement training and cardiovascular conditioning.
The article includes a video series, produced in collaboration with personal trainer and patient, Kevin Hubble, to offer some ideas for exercises for patients to use following hip replacement surgery. Kevin uses equipment commonly found in a gym to adapt the exercises often prescribed following routine hip replacement surgery.
As with all exercises performed after a surgical procedure, it is important that the patient follows the guidance and precautions provided by their surgeon.
The article can be found here (pages 26-29), and we have also published the videos on our YouTube channel.
