UCAS statistical release shows EU applicants down 6% while international applicants rise 2%

Today, UCAS published its analysis of all full-time undergraduate applications submitted by the Friday 24 March 2017 deadline.

Findings from both the January and March statistical releases show a decrease of approximately 4% in applicants compared to findings from last year.

Applicants for all courses by domicile group

UCAS reports that the current figures for the number of applicants to higher education from across the UK is as follows:

  • 408,500 from England (a decrease of 5% on 2016)
  • 19,950 from Northern Ireland (down 4% on 2016)
  • 46,720 from Scotland (down 1% on 2016)
  • 20,840 from Wales (down 6% on 2016)

 

In relation to international students, the analysis shows that applications have risen by 2% to 60,630.  EU applicants, on the other hand, have dropped by 6% to 45,140.
