On Tuesday it was confirmed that 126 providers have entered year three of TEF. A third of providers are entering TEF for the first time, while all other providers will be hoping to enhance the rating awarded in year two. According to HEFCE “last year over 230 providers gained a full TEF award (Note 1), which they may hold for up to three years. Some providers have chosen to reapply this year in the light of new evidence about their teaching excellence”.
92 providers are applying for a full award, with the remainder seeking a provisional award. The recent regulatory framework consultation recommended that participation should be compulsory for institutions with over 500 students, however participation currently remains voluntary.
Chris Husbands continues to chair the assessment panel. Panel members for the subject-level TEF pilot main panel have also been announced, while members of the individual subject panels will be confirmed at a later date.
