40% of global employers report talent shortages

“Employers across the globe are facing the most acute talent shortage since the recession” according to the latest Talent Shortage Survey by ManpowerGroup – a global human resource consulting firm.

The findings suggest that of the more than 42,000 employers surveyed, 40% are experiencing difficulties filling roles, which is the highest level since 2007. This makes the case for up-skilling and re-skilling the global workforce.

“Up-skilling our global workforce is critical to ensure organizations have the skills they need to accelerate performance and everyone has access to the opportunities on offer,” said Jonas Prising, ManpowerGroup Chairman & CEO.

When the world’s biggest sources of global talent, China and India, are compared, they depict a rather contrasting picture. Just 10% of Chinese employers reported difficulties filling roles, the lowest of all countries surveyed. This represents a steep fall from the 24% reported in 2015.

Although India’s reported skills shortages (standing at 48% in 2017) are on a path to improvement when compared to previous years, the country is still experiencing skills shortages which are above the global average of 40%.
