A project named The Leading Places Project has commenced, which will see UK councils work closely with universities to focus on the needs of local communities, and aim to ‘drive economic growth, reform public services and create new jobs‘. Both the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) have joined as partners to cooperate and coordinate together in an effort to apply university expertise and research to local solutions.
The ‘Cities and Devolution Act 2016’ became a law in January this year, and has provided ‘new opportunities to tackle the issues which affect people’s lives’, HEFCE’s chief executive has said.
