Report: Exploring trends in Motivators and Job Search Preferences

DailyBUzz-1024x553Last month, Manpower Group Solutions (the world’s largest Recruitment Process Outsourcing provider) published a White Paper Below the Surface: Emerging Global Motivators & Job Search Preferences which presents the results from a 2015 survey of nearly 4,500 job seekers across the US, UK, Australia, Mexico and China. These five nations were seen as five top influential employment markets worldwide.

The report ‘explores the trends that employers need to keep top of mind and highlights a number of universal motivators among candidates around the world’ (pg 2).  What it demonstrates is the cultural differences that impact employment behaviours and preferences, allowing employers to recognise strategies for attracting and retaining global talent.

The figure above highlights motivators across the five economies, but also has – in orange – the global average, which reveals what factors are globally recognised as most important. As indicated, ‘type of work’ is most important, however the report also concludes that ‘when it comes to motivating candidates to switch jobs…compensation gets their attention – an increase in pay is twice as powerful as type of work’ (pg 4).

The report offers suggestions of how to remain competitive in terms of recruitment, highlighting employers must ‘resist the impulse to take a homogenized approach…’.
