From Bricks to Clicks: the potential of data and analytics in Higher Education’ presents the results of the Higher Education Commission’s research of the impact data and analytics have for HE, including both students and providers. It recommends that HESA, Jisc and UUK work together to develop an improved strategy towards data management, and that HESA should be responsible for rationalising the current data collection so that it can play a stronger and central role in debates and decisions across the sector.
HESA has commented that ‘Through our Data Futures Programme, HESA is already addressing the need, identified in this report, for a more efficient and streamlined data collection system. Work is underway to scope out the changes needed to make this vision a reality and the publication of ‘From Bricks to Clicks’ adds helpful impetus and momentum.’.
The report stresses working in close partnerships across the HE sector, and highlights the importance of collaboration.
