EU Research Commissioner Carlos Moedas’ proposal of a European Innovation Council has now underway as he seeks examples of science and innovation council structures from around the globe. Although not the first time this idea has been proposed, Moedas is pushing it forward, hoping that it draws attention to Europe’s innovators. He was heard last July saying, “We are rarely succeeding in getting research results to market. Technologies developed in Europe are most of the time commercialised elsewhere.” The EIC would act as the go-to place for innovators, using the European Research Council as an example, which has made it easier for researchers to find and apply for funding and grants.
