Today was a wonderful and busy day at Bournemouth University, as Global BU (@GlobalBU) presented the Global Buzz Europe event! The event kicked off at 10:00 with some refreshments, fruit and pastries in Kimmeridge House Foyer on Talbot Campus, where guests had the opportunity to network and connect with both familiar and new faces. The talks opened with Nuno Almeida, founder and CEO of Nourish Care Systems, who gave a fantastic talk about European knowledge-intensive start-ups. Using his experience over the years, Almeida highlighted the challenges and opportunities he has had to face, and offered his own personal recommendations for future entrepreneurs.
Almeida’s talk was followed by a showcase of BU projects and research which has European affiliation either through partnerships, funding or geographical focus. We heard from Dr Philip Alford, Melanie Gray, Professor Bogdan Gabrys, Dr Stephanie Schwandnew-Sievers and Professor Dimitrios Buhalis. We also had a lovely video presented by the BU European Society, who did an equally fantastic set up in the foyer of European wine, and christmas biscuits from various countries. The showcase was a great opportunity to hear about the range of research and European collaboration happening at BU, but also to learn from hindsight experience which, regardless of faculty, offers valuable insights.
Global Buzz Europe closed with a few words from Vice Chancellor John Vinney, followed by a delicious festive lunch, dessert and mulled wine.
