THE releases BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2016

DailyBUzzThis week, Times Higher Education released the BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2016, which rates institutions from emerging economies as well as the BRICS nations.

The categories can be explored under different headings: Rankings Only, Performance Breakdown, and Key Statistics.

Performance Breakdown includes ranking teaching, international outlook, research, citations and industry income; Key Statistics looks at number of FTE students, student-staff ratio, international students and female to male ratio.

China earned half of the top 10 places, with Peking and Tsinghua once again claiming the top two positions.  China scored considerably well having 39 institutions in the top 200 BRICS list, and 30 in the emerging economies category.

India was well-represented, however did not make the top ten of the BRICS list like all of its competitors, although 16 institutions scored within the top 200.

A group of other countries made it to the ranking for the first time this year: these include Cyprus, Estonia, Ghana, Greece, Jordan, Kenya, Lithuania, Nigeria, Oman, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Qatar.
