ESPAS publishes ‘Global trends to 2030: Can the EY meet the challenges ahead?’

At a time when global issues, such as migration, inequality, renewable energies and so on leads us into increasing uncertainty at such a fast pace, research and reports are crucial.  The European Strategy and Policy Analysis System (ESPAS) – an inter-institutional project bringing together the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU –  recently published its report, Global trends to 2030: Can the EY meet the challenges ahead?,

The report interestingly presents three ‘revolutions’:

  • The global economic and technological revolution, which is about reshaping the economy, and about heading towards a society of change and innovation
  • The global social and democratic revolution, which is about tackling inequalities and restoring trust in democracy
  • The global geo-political revolution, which is about enhancing the international role of the EU.

The report looks at these three areas and explores how they will shape governance, markets and society. It concludes with a discussion about policy options, one being for the EU to ‘look to bilateral relationships while ensuring that they reinforce and do not undermine the global system’.
