After the horrific attacks in Paris last Friday, with the then subsequent plethora of highlights in social media on other devastating violence across various parts of the world – it feels awkward to remove HE from current events and ignore its impact on students, staff and universities. While we in HE promote mobility and internationalisation, Universities across the world are releasing news statements on whether their exchange students have been affected by the attacks.
Exchange programmes are a popular activity, and the experience to integrate into a different culture is both rewarding and advantageous. However we also have to appreciate how international conflict affects student experience, from simple safety to more violent attacks.
