Xinhua, Spotlight: China, EU can strengthen cooperation on global governance within G20

This weekend, leaders from the world’s 20 biggest economies will be meeting in Antalya, Turkey, over two days to discuss various global challenges facing us today. The G20 Summit will address issues facing emerging economies alongside other concerns such as climate change and employment.

The G20 is one of the most important global governance forums, driven by general cooperation and common responses of its members, as well as a build up of trust and understanding. The sheer quantity of research, knowledge-exchange and collaborative strategies it will take to overcome the various major and minor challenges can partially be facilitated and lead by strong academic institutions. There is an undeniable role for the HE sector in global governance, particularly in terms of providing evidence-based research for informed decisions and policy-making. HE internationalisation should inevitably also play a role in this area.
