ORI PhD Student Louise Mew Recognised for Outstanding Presentation on Young Hip Arthroplasty

Congratulations to ORI PhD student Louise Mew on being awarded the best verbal presentation in 100% patient facing role at the recent Sigma International Nursing European Conference.

The main theme for the conference was ‘promoting global nursing: education, research and practice to meet tomorrow’s health and care needs’ and focused on incorporating themes such as working together across disciplines, inclusivity and entrepreneurship. The conference was held at the University’s Bournemouth Gateway Building and combined a high-quality scientific programme with a vibrant social programme.

Louise was at the conference to present her PhD findings, titled ‘YOUNG HIP: An exploration into the young patients’ (<50 years) expectations following primary total hip arthroplasty’. The findings highlighted concerns that may not be as prevalent in the older patient group. Body confidence and an inability to fulfil one’s role (be it as parent, partner, provider) were important considerations, as was a lack of control in one’s own treatment and circumstances.

Well done Louise!
