ORI welcome Kate Southern to the team

ORI are delighted to welcome Kate Southern to the team as a Specialist Nurse.

Kate first discovered her interest in Orthopaedics when working as a Health Care Assistant in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Wards in the Kent and Sussex Hospital at the age of 19.

She trained as a Nurse at Bournemouth University, graduating in 2003, and later joined Professor Robert Middleton and Professor Tom Wainwright on the Orthopaedics Ward at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Kate has a wealth of clinical experience from her roles as a qualified nurse, ward sister and ward manager at both the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and the Bournemouth Nuffield Health Hospital.

Kate joins the ORI team

Kate’s focus will be on clinical work at the Nuffield Health Hospital, however she will also be involved in our robotic hip surgery research, and her appointment will help to strengthen the ongoing collaboration between Nuffield Health Hospital and ORI.

Professor Robert Middleton said: “I am very pleased to welcome Kate, a Specialist Nurse employed by Nuffield Health. She brings to the team her clinical expertise along with a wealth of experience in looking after orthopaedic patients.

Kate said: “I feel very lucky to be given the opportunity to work as Specialist Nurse and am excited to join ORI. I am keen to learn about research and work on the HELLO trial with the team and I am particularly looking forward to seeing the patients journey through to a year post-surgery. My background is working with patients immediately post-surgery until discharge on the wards and this will give me an invaluable experience of being part of the patient’s full recovery.
