Reliable design for safety and quality improvement

Tom WainwrightTom Wainwright, Associate Professor in Orthopaedics and Deputy Head of ORI, was invited to speak at the CoPMRE Twelfth Annual Symposium – Human Factors: reducing risk in healthcare on the 7th October 2015. The conference was a sell out and attracted a mixture of primary and secondary care doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, Trusts board members and academics.

The conference aimed to showcase how Human Factors can positively impact patient safety. Speakers included Professor David Haslam CBE, Chair of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Dr Debbie Rosenorn-Lanng, Director of Simulation and HQI and Visiting Professor at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Peter Jaye, Consultant in Emergency Medicine & Director of Simulation, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust & Clinical lead, Centre for applied Resilience in healthcare (CARe) and Professor Ian Curran, Assistant Director of Education & Standards, General Medical Council.

Tom was asked to present findings from his quality improvement research and extensive consultancy experiences in relation to “Reliable design for safety and quality improvement”.
