Types of geophysical survey offered

We offer the following geophysical survey services:

  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
Ideal in almost any environment on almost any surface, this technology uses microwaves to detect sub–surface voids, such as tunnels, chambers and caves, as well as discreet buried features like ditches or trenches. GPR is also ideal for detecting pipes, cables and variations in geology.
  • Magnetometry (Fluxgate and Caesium Gradiometry)
Ideally suited for evaluating large areas, gradiometers detect sub–surface features that contain magnetically enhanced material and are perfect for locating archaeological features such as kilns, furnaces, hearths, ditches and pits, as well as modern features like drains, cables, and pipes.
  • Topsoil Magnetic Susceptibility
Rapid large area coverage technique used to identify areas of magnetic enhancement of topsoil resulting from the presence of archaeological deposits. Can be used to map industrial activities and deposits.
  • Electrical Resistivity
Rapid large area coverage technique used to identify areas of magnetic enhancement of topsoil resulting from the presence of archaeological deposits. Can be used to map industrial activities and deposits.
  • Electromagnetic Survey
Measures soil conductivity and magnetic susceptibility simultaneously to map archaeology, shallow geology and detect buried metal objects.
