Blog Diary – 4th July 2012

This week we had two sessions of poetry instead of one. During one of these sessions we performed our poetry to some of the staff and students at Victoria Education Centre. We will be performing our poems to a much larger audience next month, so this was good practice for us.

We gathered around in a semi-circle to rehearse for the ‘practice performance’. Our poems are all about disability and how others may view it. When we were not in the spotlight, we waited patiently, supporting and encouraging those who were practising their performance.

Liv and Johnny wanted the beginning of the show to be captivating.  They chose Hugo, David and Charley to represent the group by reading our poem entitled ‘For people who stare.’ We all practised until Liv and Johnny were satisfied with our performances.

I was filmed performing my poem entitled ‘Insight’.

The message behind my poem was to explain how disability affects me.

We came back together after lunch to practice some more. We all wanted everything to be perfect for the poetry performance in two days time.

The cameraman Nathan, asked me if I could do an interview about poetry.

Below are the questions:

Would you like to do poetry more?

Yes, I would like to do more poetry but cannot continue in this group because I have other commitments in September. Fortunately I will be doing poetry as a part of my English Language GCSE’s.

What did I learn?

In order to put on an amazing performance, you have to be determined and passionate.
