BA (Hons) Marketing Communications

Summer 2018 has undoubtedly gone down on record for the UK, and isn’t one that will be forgotten any time soon. The chart-busting heatwave gave Portugal a run for its money, all while the nation came together to cheer on our men and their unlikely, semi-final World Cup journey. Even when football didn’t come home, we proud Brits turn to Love Island as Jack and Dani capture the hearts of millions, and Summer still isn’t over as we sit waiting (with fans on high power) to find out who will be crowned the villa’s winning couple. This summer has definitely delivered and reminded us why our country isn’t so bad after all (reality shows included), but mainly for graduates all over, this Summer will be remembered for the awards we receive on results day.

I am delighted to announce that on the 10th July, not only was I a fully-fledged, football-mad fan for the first time ever but, I was awarded a First Class Honours in Marketing Communications from Bournemouth University. I managed to calm my results day-nerves in the morning as I sat a graduate-job interview and then when I was at home, refreshing the page every few seconds. To my luck, results were released early and I was over the moon to see that the past nine months of hard work had finally paid off, and 6-day weeks on the silent floor of the library had been more than worth it!

Continuing the “work hard party hard’ ethic I had picked up from TLC Marketing (placement year), my friends and I booked a post-University, sun and cocktails-induced holiday to Portugal, to get us through the last semester. In hindsight, this was the best thing we could have done – it kept us on track, motivated, and it’s always good to have something to look forward to amidst the more challenging assignments and early mornings (wholeheartedly recommend to current students).

A couple weeks later, I enjoyed another trip, this time to Barcelona; exploring Gaudi’s iconic landmarks and eating plenty of paellas, in a climate not too different from Britains. I was also delighted to find out that I had received three different job offers from all three interviews I went to in my job-search July. The choice was obvious and made – I had already landed my favourite position as E-commerce and Digital Executive for Fiddes Payne, a company that share my values for innovation, creativity and digital. I couldn’t be happier when the call came through, and I opted to start at the home-baking and savoury-goods brand as soon as possible, one week after Barcelona!

That brings me to now, still enjoying this rare, extremely non-British Summer, preparing for the beginning of my marketing career on Monday, with an Honours I’m really proud of. I am really excited to get to know my new team and take on this new challenge and can’t thank the CMC staff at Bournemouth University enough for helping me progress. Roll on this weekend (for the Love Island final) and November; so I can officially graduate as a First Class Marketer!
