AdobeI am from a small village in Oxfordshire, I decided to go to Bournemouth Uni, because I thought the sandwich year would be invaluable to my development and so this year I have been on my placement as a Marketing and Communications Executive at Adobe Systems.

I chose to take a marketing placement at Adobe, because I already loved and believed in the product – an InDesign course was part of BA (Hons) Communication & Media. In addition, I was excited that the company is at the forefront in the industry and I wanted to be able to say that I was a part of it.

The advantages from this year have been second to none. Of course there is the obvious experience in the industry, which is invaluable, and it’s great to be able to have such a strong understanding already, but mainly I feel that it has really developed me as a person. Having taken this placement I now know that I want to be in marketing or a similar role, but it has also made me more curious as to not only what is out there, but to what I am capable of.

There are so many pieces of advice that I would give to someone considering a work placement. Applying is competitive, but it’s crucial to be yourself. Once you’ve started your placement, just take everything as it comes – they will expect you, as a student, to be there to learn.
