The UCAS deadline is fast approaching, so here are some answers to your top questions.

When can we start applying for student finance?

Firstly you don’t need to have a confirmed place at BU to apply.  You can start applying now through Student Finance England.  You may find these student finance videos and other resources helpful too. Details of additional financial support available from BU for students commencing study in September 2016, can be found here.

I’ve booked my two tickets for an Applicant Open Day, could I bring another guest?

Due to the high volume of visitors attending these events, we are limited to numbers. If you’re travelling a long distance and arriving early the day before your interview, you would be very welcome to bring along your guests for a visit of the campus, based on a self-guided tour.

Can I have an update on my application?

We appreciate that this is an anxious time, but it does take 6 – 8 weeks for an application to be processed. As soon as our admissions team has reached a decision, this will be updated via UCAS track and MyHub. If you are a Hotmail user, you may wish to check your spam box for messages.

If I fall slightly short of the entry requirements, am I likely to be accepted? Is it worth me applying?

Our admissions team looks at applications as a whole, taking into account your personal statement, references, relevant work experience and academic qualifications. If you do fall slightly short of the tariff point requirement then you may still be considered so it is definitely worth putting in an application.

I’ve got an unconditional offer, when can I apply for accommodation?

There are two stages to completing the online accommodation application. You will receive an email with deadlines stating when you are eligible to complete each stage. We’d suggest you keep an eye on our website and our Facebook page for accommodation updates.

I’ve been invited along for an interview, but can’t make the date, what should I do?

Firstly, congratulations on being shortlisted to attend an interview, that’s great news!  Please don’t worry, just respond via the message through MyHub. If you’re experiencing difficulties with making contact, please email us here at askBUenquiries@bournemouth.ac.uk confirming your full name, UCAS ID number and course title.  Good luck!

What do I need to bring with me for my interview and how should I prepare?

Please ensure that you have replied to any outstanding requests from Admissions prior to attending your interview.  For further details about the day, you may find this link helpful.

I’ve been offered a place for Business Studies, I applied for Business Studies with Marketing – is this right?

Yes, please don’t worry. Our Business Studies courses all have the same first year as they are in the same framework. It’s in year two when you’ll specialise into the various branches of the course we have (Business Studies with Marketing, Business Studies with Law etc).

I’m interested in being considered for one of your UK scholarships and bursaries, can you help?

We offer a wide range of scholarships that are available for undergraduate students to reward academic excellence, and your musical or sporting talents. You can apply for more than one scholarship, if you meet the requirements, however, you will only be awarded one, if you are successful. In addition, we offer two bursaries designed to offer extra financial support for those from low income households or care leavers.  For more information please click here.

I’m doing an Access HE course to be considered for one of your nursing courses and wondered what units I need to consider?  What would be a typical offer?

That’s great news!  We consider all of the units covered within the Access HE course, feel free to choose the options you would like to study.  A typical offer for all of our nursing courses could be 21 Level 3 Credits at Merit or Distinction in Science subjects.

What is the UCAS course code for the BA (Hons) Business Studies?

It is N100.  This applies to any of the pathways (Economics, Enterprise, Human Resource Management, Law, Marketing, Operations & Project Management, International).  The first year is the same for all of these subject areas within the Business Studies courses, then you specialise in Year 2.
