{"id":527,"date":"2012-04-27T15:09:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-27T15:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/?p=527"},"modified":"2016-03-10T14:05:40","modified_gmt":"2016-03-10T14:05:40","slug":"events-students-pitch-in-dragons-den-to-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/2012\/04\/27\/events-students-pitch-in-dragons-den-to-ceo\/","title":{"rendered":"Events students pitch in Dragons Den to CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2012\/04\/picto-usesized.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-533\" src=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2012\/04\/picto-usesized.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Events management students were challenged to a Dragons Den style entrepreneurial presentation on Tuesday 24 of April, fighting for the \u2018investment\u2019 of Tony Brown CEO of Beales department stores.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other Dragons included Events Management Programme leader Pearl Morrison and Miguel Moital, Senior Lecturer in Events Management.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were 4 presentations throughout the morning, each trying to impress Tony Brown to be awarded the best business idea to suit Beales, \u00a3100 worth of vouchers and a day shadowing the CEO himself at work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first group proposed a \u2018Toytastic\u2019 ticketed event, which did impress the Dragons, although they were criticised for using inaccurate marketing and advertising costs, and not using enough digital marketing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Francesca Gorvin, a student from the \u2018Toytastic\u2019 group said after her presentation,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it went really well and we had a few issues with group dynamics in the year, so think that now that has been resolved I think it was a good turn out and it has been received well by the dragons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other presentations included a \u2018Gourmet junk food\u2019 event, which would feature a celebrity chef teaching students how to cook healthy typical junk food meals focusing on discounted cooking equipment, \u2018Beales be beautiful\u2019 a complimentary focused fashion and beauty event, and \u2018Beales Olympics\u2019 focused on using the Xbox kinect to hold Olympic based competitions in store.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tony Brown CEO of Beales department stores <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H5csI_mQ4zY&amp;list=UUoZJqGSt3CFeuLrYiKH4j-w&amp;feature=plcp\" target=\"_blank\">described the presentations <\/a>as \u2018very innovative\u2019 and will probably use \u2018some aspect of all of them\u2019.\u00a0He also gave some practical advice to the events students,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it would be useful for students to get involved in the real commerciality of what businesses do\u2026 to understand the rationale about what stands behind it and the real costs, as that\u2019s the bit that I think most groups have missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After all the tough pitching and stiff competition Tony declared each team a winner, stating the ideas were all so innovative he could see them all working in the store, promising to duplicate the voucher money for each team.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dragon Pearl Morrison said,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe students did so well Tony Brown couldn\u2019t choose the best one which is phenomenal really, so we are really proud that they have come on from the journey from their tour around Beales to standing up in our board<\/p>\n<p>room at Bournemouth University today and doing their presentations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
