{"id":4115,"date":"2017-02-13T21:17:19","date_gmt":"2017-02-13T21:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/?p=4115"},"modified":"2017-02-13T21:17:19","modified_gmt":"2017-02-13T21:17:19","slug":"conor-burns-mp-for-bournemouth-west-visited-to-give-a-talk-entitled-government-tourism-policy-and-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/2017\/02\/13\/conor-burns-mp-for-bournemouth-west-visited-to-give-a-talk-entitled-government-tourism-policy-and-brexit\/","title":{"rendered":"Conor Burns,  MP for Bournemouth West visited to give a talk entitled \u2018Government, Tourism Policy and Brexit\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Conor Burns,\u00a0 MP for Bournemouth West (which includes BU) visited on 13 Feb 2017 to give a talk entitled \u2018Government, Tourism Policy and Brexit\u2019 to final year BA Tourism Management undergraduates.\u00a0 Conor shared his experiences on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, arguing that while the tourism industry is one of the biggest sectors of the economy (and employs more people than the automotive industry) it is not successful at speaking with one voice, unlike other industries. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2017\/02\/Conor.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4116\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4116 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2017\/02\/Conor.png\" alt=\"Conor\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2017\/02\/Conor.png 600w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2017\/02\/Conor-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He also suggested that responsibility for tourism would be better moved to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to reflect its importance.
