{"id":4018,"date":"2016-12-28T10:33:32","date_gmt":"2016-12-28T10:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/?p=4018"},"modified":"2016-12-24T17:36:46","modified_gmt":"2016-12-24T17:36:46","slug":"dr-sean-beer-guest-speaker-at-the-72nd-agm-of-the-wool-and-bere-regis-agricultural-discussion-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/2016\/12\/28\/dr-sean-beer-guest-speaker-at-the-72nd-agm-of-the-wool-and-bere-regis-agricultural-discussion-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Sean Beer guest speaker at the 72nd AGM of the Wool and Bere Regis Agricultural Discussion Club."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dr Sean Beer recently headed off to the country as guest speaker at the 72nd AGM of the Wool and Bere Regis Agricultural Discussion Club.\u00a0 Clubs such as this were formed as an aid to agricultural extension during the Second World War and many, Like Wool and Bere Regis, are still thriving.\u00a0 Sean\u2019s address was entitled \u201cA light hearted look at being an academic\u201d.\u00a0 In many ways he is a unique position to talk about this having, during his time in further and higher education, taught all age groups from 3-83 and at all levels in English education from pre-school to supervising PhDs.\u00a0 Sean\u2019s research work has also been diverse encompassing the natural sciences, sociology, economics and psychology.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2016\/12\/3-e1482600962780.jpeg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4019\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4019\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/tourism\/files\/2016\/12\/3-e1482600962780.jpeg\" alt=\"3\" width=\"448\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In his talk he was able to demystify many aspects of academic life and afterwards, as can be seen in the picture (Sean is second from the left), the members retired to the bar for some light refreshments.
