Studying sustainable and wildlife tourism at Bournemouth University Department of Tourism and Hospitality<\/a><\/p>\n

Drs. Susanna\u00a0Curtin and Jon Edwards had\u00a0an enjoyable day out at RSPB Arne with the MSc students studying wildlife, nature and ecotourism. They were there to\u00a0experience\u00a0the diverse wetland and woodland habitat and to learn about the relationship between nature reserves and ecotourism.<\/p>\n\"2016-05-11<\/a>\n

\u00a0Are nature reserves visitor attractions?\u00a0 Becky Williams from the RSPB\u00a0gave an interesting talk on how they manage the influx of visitors who range from\u00a0avid bird watchers, dog walkers\u00a0and\/or family day trippers.\u00a0 The new shop and caf\u00e9 are an added attraction and will further increase visitor numbers causing pressure on car parking, facilities and residents along the approach road.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

However, the increase visitor numbers is also a factor of changing lifestyles and the desire to get out and experience nature in a beautiful and accessible part of Poole harbour.\u00a0 Visitors are therefore welcomed at the reserve as increased numbers means increased spend in the shop and the caf\u00e9 and\u00a0increased RSPB memberships inspired by the visitor experience.\u00a0\u00a0Good for nature and good for people.\u00a0 The students had a nice day out and learned a lot too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
