The work conducted by the group focuses on investigating the antecedents, prevalence and consequences of abusive relationships in sport. The\u00a0symposium brought together\u00a0leading\u00a0academics from around the world to present the\u00a0latest\u00a0research in the\u00a0area.\u00a0 The prize was awarded on the basis of Emma\u2019s two presentations at the event. The first introduced a conceptual framework for understanding virtual maltreatment in sport and the second introduced a humanization framework for enhancing understanding of athlete welfare.<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/sports\/files\/2013\/11\/Emma-Kavanagh.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Emma Kavanagh\" src=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/sports\/files\/2013\/11\/Emma-Kavanagh.jpg\" width=\"383\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Receiving the award is great achievement given that the symposium consists of the leading researchers worldwide in the area of athlete welfare.\u00a0 Celia Brackenridge is internationally acknowledged as the worlds leading academic in the field of child protection and athlete welfare and was impressed with the standard of work being completed at Bournemouth University.
