I chose BU specifically because it\u00a0offered me the chance to take a\u00a0placement year, and I was impressed\u00a0by the connections the university has\u00a0with big companies in the industry.\u00a0I knew that doing a placement\u00a0would give me the upper hand over\u00a0other students once I\u2019d graduated\u00a0and looking back, I realise just\u00a0how much I\u2019ve learned thanks to\u00a0having the chance to undertake a\u00a0work placement.\u00a0I worked as a communications and\u00a0marketing intern for Pacific Asia\u00a0Travel Association (PATA), in Bangkok.\u00a0It was a really varied role, and my\u00a0responsibilities grew the longer I\u00a0was there. To start with, I was posting\u00a0PATA members\u2019 press releases on
\nthe website and social media, and\u00a0keeping our members informed about\u00a0events happening around the world\u00a0that might be of interest to them.\"\"<\/a>
\nBecause digital media was of\u00a0particular interest to me, I grew\u00a0that area of the role to create and\u00a0schedule social media content across\u00a0Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I was\u00a0also asked to use my copywriting\u00a0skills to create an email to members\u00a0that promoted tours for delegates\u00a0to the PATA Annual Summit in
\nSouth Korea, and was very proud\u00a0when it was sent out without any\u00a0changes being made.\u00a0Another highlight was being involved\u00a0in a project with Uniting Travel, a\u00a0PATA member. I had to write and\u00a0research statistics for a report\u00a0presenting the benefits that travel\u00a0and tourism bring to the global\u00a0economy and society as a whole.\u00a0It was presented at a summit in\u00a0Argentina, and involved a lot of hard\u00a0work to a tight deadline.\u00a0It\u2019s experiences like that which\u00a0justified my decision to look for\u00a0a course that could offer a great\u00a0placement year. It\u2019s made me even\u00a0more confident that my career is\u00a0getting off to the best possible start.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
