\u201cHaving studied and enjoyed\u00a0law at A-level I wanted to pursue a\u00a0career in law. I was attracted to the\u00a0LLB at Bournemouth because of the\u00a0business emphasis and the work\u00a0placement element. The placement struck me as an excellent opportunity\u00a0to find out what area of law might best\u00a0suit me and I also thought it would\u00a0help me to establish connections in the legal sector. I was right on both counts!\u00a0The course was delivered in a personal\u00a0way and due to the approachability\u00a0of the teaching staff I felt well\u00a0supported at every stage. I was\u00a0fortunate to secure a work placement\u00a0in Southampton at a well-known\u00a0and established firm of solicitors,\u00a0who ultimately went on to train me. I formed lasting relationships as a result\u00a0of my work placement whilst gaining\u00a0valuable insights into what it is really\u00a0like to work as a solicitor.\u201d Now working for Stowe Family Law,\u00a0Paul specialises in divorce and other\u00a0areas of family law. When it comes\u00a0to offering advice to other aspiring\u00a0solicitors, Paul said: \u201cWhichever area\u00a0of law you aspire to, the competition\u00a0for training contracts grows by the\u00a0year. I would urge hopeful lawyers to\u00a0take part in a placement year if at all possible. If a placement is not possible,\u00a0then voluntary work experience is an\u00a0absolute must.
