This is a guest blog by Gemma Griffin, a BA (Hons) Business Studies graduate.<\/h3>\n

I completed my work placement at IBM on London\u2019s South Bank, working in the Product\u00a0Marketing team.\u00a0As part of my role, I helped to implement
\nmarketing strategies from our worldwide team\u00a0into the UK & Ireland team, developing training\u00a0initiatives to improve collaboration between our
\n14 different marketing teams.\u00a0My main achievement was probably being the\u00a0co-owner of an entire zone at the Watson Summit,\u00a0where there were a record-breaking 1,200\u00a0registrants and over 750 client attendees. I was the\u00a0only placement student to work on a real strategic\u00a0level at this event. The zone I co-owned generated\u00a0real client leads and revenue.\u00a0I think that my time at BU has prepared me\u00a0well for a career \u2013 I certainly found that when\u00a0I encountered other placement students, my\u00a0experiences at university had been more practical\u00a0than theirs. Conducting business appraisals, for\u00a0example \u2013 I found it an extension of skills I \"\"<\/a>already\u00a0possessed while others found themselves taking a\u00a0total step into the unknown.\u00a0While I was on placement at IBM, I was put\u00a0forward for interview for the role of a next\u00a0generation business consultant with the company.\u00a0I was successful, and secured a graduate position\u00a0before returning to BU for my final year. Knowing\u00a0that I have the first step in my career already\u00a0in place for when I finish my degree is a really\u00a0good feeling.<\/p>\n
